We are a vibrant not for profit theatre company based in Sydenham, operating as a CIC since 2023 but creating highly original theatre in the southern part of Lewisham borough since 2008. Based at the Sydenham Centre we stage 7-8 original productions each year, aimed a wide range of audiences, from families with young children, to older adults. Our work is always inclusive, diverse, innovative, accessible and as affordable as possible. Alongside our live events programme we run regular scriptwriting classes for adults and stage new writing written by its members twice a year. We always need volunteers and have a thriving team of backstage and 'front of house' helpers. In the near future we hope to stage more free events and offer creative writing, acting, singing and dance workshops for children. As well as our shows indoors we regularly stage events in local parks too, subject to our changing weather of course!
As part of Lewisham's Borough of Culture programme in 2022 we launched our event END OF! on Sydenham high street and outside Sydenham library. Actors in recycled costumes and riding pedal-powered vehicles took transported to the audience to a dystopian future after climate change, but offering a message of hope, as two warring tribes came together to build a new world.
This was a collaboration with local schools and a local performing arts academy. The event culminated in two performances in Home Park in May of that year, but the launch took place on a very cold and damp day in January!
“Spontaneous Productions is the National Theatre of SE26. Always surprising, always impressive, always entertaining."
